Top 10 Business Class From Melbourne to Europe

Special trip to Europe? Boss paying for Business Class? Got some points to burn? What are your choices for the best business class experience?

Here is my pick for the top 10 business class flights to Europe from Melbourne. ¬†All are personal experiences and personal suggestions. ūüôā

The new Qsuite of Qatar airways improved an already amazing Qatar business into something that most airlines would consider first class.  4 suites can combine into a big living room with a central shared dining table. All suites have a closing doors for privacy. Lots of nooks and crannies for storage. Some of the best food in the air, and dine anytime during the flight.  Service is well known to be personable and professional. The enormous flagship business class lounge in Doha is better than most first class lounges. This is indeed the perfect package.

An oldie but a goldie. ¬†The airline has the biggest fleet of the superjumbo A380 in the world, and it’s still a great plane. ¬†Huge TV, lie flat bed, direct aisle access, good service and an onboard bar will make your long haul flight a breeze. ¬†I also love the chauffeur service and the free overnight stay in Dubai (Dubai Connect). ¬†It’s not the newest kid on the block, but to me, it’s the best overall package. Just make sure you book the A380 and not the terrible B777.¬†Seat configuration is 1-2-1.

Now there are 2 ways to go to Europe from Melbourne using Qantas. ¬†The new Qantas 787 means we can fly super-long-haul from Perth to London. The newer business class ‘suites’ on the 787 are pretty great. Whilst not revolutionary, the seats are near benchmark for international business class, you can even recline during takeoff and landing.¬†Seat configuration is 1-2-1

This would have pipped Emirates if Melbourne was to retain the A380. Unfortunately, Melbourne now have the older B777. We still get a decent seat, but not the newer A380 with the onboard bar. Chauffeur service is still included(for now). Seat configuration is 1-2-1

The new 787 JAL planes are aimed towards the luxury market. Majority of the plane is premium class and less than a third is economy. The new business Sky Suites are really innovative, the window seat is essentially a mini private suite, similar to that of a first class in lesser airlines.  Combined with warm Japanese hospitality, fancy food, and a potential stop over in Tokyo, this really is a great way to travel to Europe. Seat configuration is 1-1-2-1-1.

The best part about Cathay is that you are guaranteed to have a good time.  All business class seats are near identical and all provide direct aisle access, lie flat seats and lots of storage space. The lounges in Hong Kong airport are some of the best in the world, especially the noodle bar and dim sum carts! Seat configuration is 1-2-1

Arguably the best airline in the world. ¬†Singapore airline always have amazing service combined with the best on the ground experience at Changi Airport. ¬†You can do ‘book the chef’ and select from hundreds of dishes to be tailor made to you before the flight, including lobster. ¬†The business class seats are as wide as most first class seats, however, the design can be awkward for sleeping, where you have to lie on an angle.¬†Seat configuration is 1-2-1

The brand new Thai A350 has finally arrived and now Thai airlines has a benchmark business class seat.  Unfortunately the business class lounge in Bangkok is subpar, however you do get a wonderful 30min massage before your flight! Seat configuration is 1-2-1

Cheap Cheap Cheap. Fly the Dreamliner 787 to Europe on this tiny airline with basement prices. ¬†The cabin is stylish and new, but you don’t get served alcohol, which shouldn’t be a problem because you can drink your own, :-). Seat configuration is 1-2-1

10. QANTAS via Singapore:

The longhaul flight from Melbourne to Dubai is being discontinued, so the Qantas superjumbo A380 now via Singapore.  I only put this one here for those who really want to fly Qantas, the seats on the superjumbo are old and outdated, the Qantas service are usually poor(personal opinion) and the business lounge in Melbourne is a shithole.   Seat configuration is 2-3-2.
